Hazen Upsets Lake Region in Quarterfinals

ORLEANS–There is an old adage in high school sports that it is difficult to beat a team three time in one season.
Friday afternoon's quarterfinal game between the Lake Region Rangers and Hazen Wildcats proved that saying true, as Hazen picked up a 2-1 overtime win on a goal by Jake Gilcris after suffering two regular season loses to the Rangers in 2014.

PSB Fines GMP For Noise Violations

The Vermont Public Service Board (PSB) has penalized Green Mountain Power for noise violations at the Lowell wind farm. On October 16 the board ordered GMP to pay for one year of continuous sound monitoring, estimated to cost about $109,000, and pay a $1,000 fine.

FairPoint Strike Affects Local Workers

ERBY – FairPoint office and field workers from Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine continued walk the picket line this week. Just over 300 Vermont workers are on the picket line. They join more than 1,700 across the tri-state area. The workers’ previous five-year contract ended August 2.

Falcons Headed to Semifinals for Third Straight Year

NEWPORT–For the third straight year, one of the two Division III field hockey semi-final games will feature the team from North Country, as the Falcons defeated the Montpelier Solons 3-1 in a wet and rainy quarter-final match up on Thursday.

Lake Region Blows Past Lamoille to Reach Quarterfinals

ORLEANS–It was over before it even started.
The Lake Region Lady Rangers scored three goals in the first two minutes and sixteen seconds, and that, along with a three goal effort from Jenna Charland, helped the team to defeat the Lamoille Lancers 8-1 in play-down action Wednesday afternoon.

North Country Hospital Now Has 3D Mammography

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women. North Country Hospital has a new medical device that will facilitate breast cancer detection. The hospital will be one of about 10 percent of hospitals in the nation that offers the three-dimensional capabilities.

Lady Chargers Advance With 4-0 Win Over Chelsea

CRAFTSBURY-The Craftsbury Lady Chargers were in action Wednesday afternoon, as they hosted the Chelsea Red Devils in a Division IV play-down soccer match.
It was obvious who would be the dominant side, as Craftsbury was able to possess the majority of the game, resulting in the telling 4-0 victory.

Coventry Village School: Flood Damage Will Cost $120,000 To Repair

COVENTRY — Recovery and repair is underway at the Coventry Village School following a blown gasket that flooded the gym and several classrooms. Principal Matthew Baughman met with the school board and Jim Cobb of Restoration Unlimited on Tuesday evening.
