DERBY – Vermont companies are proposing to build large, single wind turbines on two or three farms in Derby Line.
For about two years, Bryan Davis of Grand View Farms was looking into attaining a large turbine on his farm. Currently he has a small turbine of about 100 feet, but the turbine does not generate enough power to completely run his farm.
Now Alteris Renewables and Encore Redevelopment have joined in on the idea. The land for the turbines would be leased from the farmers. The turbines would be made by Northern Power Systems, a Vermont company based in Barre.

The service will be held at Morgan United Church on Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m.

Politano–– Mary E., 55, of Orleans, VT, passed away suddenly June 26, 2011, at her home in Orleans. Services will be private. CHARLESTON, VT – Christine Billis, 42 of Brownington, has been arrested for first degree homicide in the death of her husband, Charles Billis, 57 of Brownington, following a Vermont State Police investigation into the September 22, 2009 vehicle accident on Line Farm Road and VT RT 5A in Charleston.
Christine Billis sustained injuries and was taken to North Country Hospital for treatment. Charles Billis, the passenger, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. Charles Billis was then taken to North Country Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
ORLEANS- Bottom of the last inning. Two outs. Bases loaded. Tie game. And the batter comes through with a game winning hit, much to the delight of the hometown crowd and teammates on the bench.
Virtually every kid has dreamed of this scenario playing whiffle ball in their backyard at some point or another, and on Monday night at Lake Region the Ranger’s Haley Kennedy was livin’ the dream. Kennedy’s high chop infield hit scored Chelsea Poginy from third base, giving the Rangers a thrilling 7-6 come from behind victory over the Lyndon A’s.

ST. JOHNSBURY- Down by five runs entering the final inning, and weary from over four hours of play, the Lake Region Rangers Babe Ruth softball team rallied for seven runs to take a 17-15 decision over the St. Johnsbury Dodgers at Leonard’s Field in St. J. Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers-Dodgers match-up was the second of a two-team doubleheader for the Rangers, who squeaked by the St. Johnsbury Red Sox 9-8 earlier in the day.
If you have driven by the NCUHS Varsity soccer field recently, you may have seen the new soccer dug-outs! The previous shelters had served their purpose well, and after almost 20 years the time had come to replace them. Rather than spend money on dug-outs of the same collapsible design, the decision was made to put the same money into permanent sheds. Gone are the days are setting up and breaking down the old structures, while the safety component of not having to move the solid but very heavy roof, will be well appreciated.
