ORLEANS–In what started out as a tight contest ended in a twenty point victory for the Lady Rangers on Thursday as they ended their two game skid, defeating the Richford Rockets 52-32.
“I think this was an important win for us,” said coach Matt Tinker, “This will be good for the girls as we needed to get another win under our belt.”
The first quarter was tightly played eight minutes by both teams. Cailyn Gallup started the scoring with with a mid-range jumper to get Lake Region on the board first, and it would be back and fourth from there.
January 19th
NEWPORT - Nearly 300 people turned out for a meeting Wednesday evening to discuss concerns relating to the termination of oncologist Dr. Leslie Lockridge from North Country Hospital. The meeting was held at the Newport Municipal Building, where the hospital's CEO, Claudio Fort, and members of the board of directors took center stage at the front of the room.
Nearly everyone there expressed strong support for Lockridge and outrage that he is losing his job.Â
DERBY LINE - One of the best maintained and handsome burial grounds in northern Vermont is found at Derby Line. The cemetery there, located west of the border crossing, customs and the Derby Line Post Office, sits on one of the most endangered pieces of property in the whole Northeast Kingdom.
ST. ALBANS–The North Country boys hockey team came close, but in the end, the BFA Bobwhites were able to erase a four goal deficit, and electrify the Collins-Perley Sports Complex in overtime as Mike Schreiner picked up the winner to give St.Albans the 5-4 victory.
The Falcons got all their scoring in the first two periods as Ryan Paul had two and Josh Bernier and Ross DeLaBruere had one to stake the boys in maroon to 4-1 lead.
The Bobwhites battled back to send the game into overtime where the captain put home his second of the night to pick up the win.
January 18th
NEWPORT, VT - Over 250 people crowded into the Newport Municipal Building last night interrogate the hospital board of directors over the dismissal of Dr. Leslie Lockridge.
The hospital's CEO, Claudio Fort, addresses the crowd in what promised to be a two-hour discussion moderated by hospital board member Kathy Austin.
When Dr. Lockridge appeared, he was met with hugs and cheers.

NEWPORT CITY – North Country Union High School teacher and track coach Gary Johnson had his say about the newly refurbished track at Tuesday night’s full board meeting.
Last year the school board agreed to refurbish the track providing the project used no taxpayer dollars. Johnson made a commitment to head up the fundraising efforts and, to date, he has raised about $88,000. Later in the year, the board agreed to start the project even though there wasn’t enough money.Â
ENOSBURG, VT - An Enosburg, VT, woman is sick, suffering from formaldehyde poisoning, and she says the source is the neighboring farm.
Amy Cochran of Enosburg is a retired science teacher and former farmer herself. Her neighbor has a large farm with approximately 1,200 cattle. According to Cochran, the neighbor uses formaldehyde regularly on the farm.
Formaldehyde is used by many farmers throughout the state to treat hairy wart syndrome, an infection cows get on their hooves.
