NEWPORT CITY – There is a saying if you love something, set it free. If it returns, it is yours for keeps. That is certainly the case for Steve Restelli and Carmen of Barre.
Carmen is Restelli’s 1961, 356-B Carmen Hardtop Sports Coupe Porsche displayed during the Cars of Yesteryear's (COY) 31st annual show at North Country Union High School Sunday. Restelli, like many owners of classic cars, has a story to tell. Restelli purchased the car twice and sold it once. But, let’s start from the beginning.

Pig Epidemic Spreads to VT Cancelling Annual Fair Event

A pig epidemic that has devastated several farms across the U.S. has spread to Vermont. The Vermont Agency of Agriculture announced a Rutland farm had the first known case in the state in March of this year. Due to the the outbreak, the state has highly recommended not holding the pig scramble at the Orleans County Fair in Barton this year, which is set to open its doors August 13 said Pam Tetreault with the fair association. Tetreault said she made the announcement on the fair's Facebook page that they are very sorry to disappoint the children who look forward to the piglet scramble...

Van Nostrand Settles In as Superintendent

BARTON- From aptly named hometown Northville, NY, OCSU superintendent Don Van Nostrand has wound his way north and east to Barton, VT.  Influenced at an early age by several strong teachers, Van Nostrand set his sights on becoming a high school math teacher.  A love of math led him to Potsdam State College (SUNY) where he received degrees in math and secondary education.

Fundraiser For Mary Wright Halo Foundation

The Ladies League in cooperation with the Newport Country Club, led by Carol Needleman and Martha Fortin are organizing the first annual golf, BBQ, and dance to benefit the Halo Foundation. The date is Saturday, August 23rd, and features a two person scramble, and three divisions (men, women, and mixed).  A putting contest will start at 11:30 a.m., and a shotgun start for the tournament begins at 1:30 p.m.

Memorial Concert Planned for Homicide Victim

Island Pond–– The family and friends of homicide victim Isaac Hunt are planning a public celebration of his life.  Mary Hunt, of Island Pond, said that a memorial concert for her brother is planned for 7 p.m. at Pavilion Park in Island Pond, on Saturday, August 16, weather permitting.  The event will include a paper lantern lighting, and the family has created decals and wristbands in Isaac’s memory, which will be on sale during the concert.
