Guay– Philippe William, 52, of Island Pond passed away November 27, 2011 in Burlington, VT. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. James Parish Hall in Island Pond with the Rev. Frank Connor celebrating a mass Christian burial. Interment will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond, Vt. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, locally family owned and operated.

Jeff Johansen, Newport, and his five year old daughter Briana were busy over Thanksgiving weekend. With their home encased in Christmas cheer, they have a good start to the holiday season. But it doesnât stop there. Jeff said they have plans for more decorating.

NEWPORT CITY â Main Street will be alive with holiday cheer this Saturday, as Newport kicks off the holiday season with its "Magic on Main" celebration.
First, deserving families will enjoy a complete holiday meal at the East Side Restaurant. The annual holiday dinner sponsored by Burlington Real Estate Developer and Newport native Tony Pomerleau is by invention only.
It's nice to have a day of entertaining and fun to keep everyone in the downtown area said Andy Cappello, director of The Newport Recreation Department.

The Lowell Mountain Occupiers are planning to hold a second Mountaintop Open House on Sunday, December 4.
The first open house held on November 13 was well attended with more than 90 participants.
Nearly all made the hike up to the ridge line.
Participants make the trip in groups depending on the pace they want to walk. The hike is about one mile on muddy, and in some places steep, terrain and takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to reach the top.
Participants from the first open house agreed that a second open house should take place.

NEWPORT CITY â Last Monday, the Newport City Council gave the thumbs up for a tax stabilization request for Numia Medical Technology.
President Eric Flachbart told the council that the property is perfect for his company. For now, the company will occupy one of the two buildings. Flachbart wants to lease the second building for a couple of years, until he is ready to occupy both buildings.
âWeâre actually putting a lot more into the buildings than we anticipated,â he said. âIt was originally going to be a $119,000 project now itâs over $300,000.â

NEWPORT CITY â Firefighters closed off a section of the boardwalk and parking lot of Little Gâs Market on Saturday while they dealt with a gasoline spill that entered Lake Memphremagog.
Firefighters responded to Little Gâs Market in Rail Road Square around 3 p.m. Fire Chief Jamie LeClair said someone passing by smelled gas and reported the spill to Little G's clerk. However, no vehicles were around at the time and the source of the spill is unknown as is the amount of time the gas had been there.

Local businesses were busy for the so-called Black Friday; known as one of the busiest shopping days across the country. However, most said that business increases as Christmas Day approaches.
Although businesses were busy, response was mixed when compared to last yearâs activity. Some were busier this year, while others said they were busy, but not quite as busy as last year on the same day.
But all are enthused by the push to shop locally.
Country Thyme, a specialty food and gift store on Route 111 in Derby, was hopping with customers.
