NEWPORTâ€“With the sun shining bright, drying out a field that was soaked earlier in the day by rain, North Country amassed ten runs in the first four innings to defeat Lake Region 10-0 to advance to the Vermont State 10-U Cal Ripken Tournament.
David Lessard got the start for North Country, and he was on fire, striking out the first six batters he faced on twenty-nine pitches.
Lessard would get the offense started as well, drawing a first inning walk, stealing second and scoring on a double steal.
LaPlanteâ€“â€“ Terry Dean, 68, of Derby, VT passed away on June 22, 2013 at his home with his family at his side.

DERBY CENTER- North Country Supervisory Union (NCSU) Business Manager Glenn Hankinson advised the North Country Union Junior High School (NCUJHS) board that, with one month to go in the fiscal year, the Junior High school is projecting a $30,000 budget deficit for FY2013.

NEWPORTâ€“With a steady drizzle making playing conditions less than ideal, the North Country 12-U baseball team quickly and efficiently disposed of Northfield 10- in four innings on Tuesday evening.
Aidan Gariepy paced the maroon and blue, blasting a three-run home run in the first for the game winning runs, and then ended the game with an RBI single in the fourth.
Much like the day before, Vermont State Cal Ripken Commissioner Bernie Gonyaw opened the day with a ceremonial first pitch.
Then North Country went to work.
NEWPORTâ€“Isaac Bliss hit a two-run home run in the first inning and his teammates would score five more runs in the fifth inning, as North Country bested Lake Region 7-1 to kick off the 10-U district tournament on Monday.
After darkening skies threatened to post-pone the start of the tournament, the sun made an appearance for the duration of the game, and the two teams were able to get their game in.
Vermont State Cal Ripken Commissioner Bernie Gonyaw threw out the ceremonial first pitch, and after that it was game on.
NEWPORT CITY - Last week a local resident expressed safety concerns to the city council about the planned Anc Bio complex at the former Bogner building. Monday night Bill Stenger, a partner with the South Korean Firm, rebutted the concerns.Â

DERBY â€“ The IROC facility has sold. Thatâ€™s the word from Phil White, the facilityâ€™s former executive director. The buildingâ€™s use will change and will no longer be a community recreation facility White said. When asked about the new owners or new use White said he has â€śno idea.â€ť
