First Universalist Parish Considers Electric Car Charging Station

DERBY — The First Universalist Parish in Derby Line set a high bar by placing solar panels on the roof of the addition to their church. Parishioners and other interested people can purchase a share of the panel’s production to offset their electric bills. Now the board of directors is considering adding a charging station to accommodate electric car owners.

Derby Line Village Inn: Planning Commission Issues Final Approval For Outside Seating

From NCC to Pinehurst, Austin Giroux is Going Places

NEWPORT–It is not uncommon to go up to a golfer and have them tell you that they have been playing golf for more than half of their life.
When I met up with Austin Giroux and asked him how long he had been playing, he said most of his life.
Here is the difference:
Austin is a ten years old.
He started golfing when he was three.
So, to say that Austin has been golfing for most of his life is a pretty darn accurate statement.
Austin has had quite the summer so far, and I made the trek up to the Newport Country Club to sit down and chat with Derby Elementary School fifth grader.

Sogoloff–– Leonard M., the owner and founder of “Lennie’s on the Turnpike,” the iconic North Shore jazz club that introduced Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Buddy Rich, and an aspiring young comic named Jay Leno to local audiences, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Devereux House in Marblehead.

Stabbing Victim Laid To Rest: Community Questions Safety Of Public

ISLAND POND — On Sunday, July 13, in a small, private cemetery in the town of Brighton, Eugene Hunt and his family laid to rest the body of his son, Isaac Hunt. The elder Hunt, who is a member of the Twelve Tribes Community, eulogized his son as a “gentle, happy soul, who was always smiling.”

NCSU Superintendent Castle Had Sense Of Calling To Come Home

NEWPORT CITY — North Country Supervisory Union’s recently hired Superintendent John Castle has returned home. Raised and educated in Holland and North Country Union High School, Castle went on to Middlebury College and received a major in sociology and a minor in education.

Salem Lake Clear Of Invasive Species

Rapidly growing non-native aquatic species, including Eurasian watermilfoil, are causing problems for Vermont lakes. According to the Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) milfoil infests a number of lakes, including Memphremagog and Champlain. However steps to keep it out of Lake Salem in Derby have so far been successful.

Parker Pie Expands Kitchen To Keep Up With Business

Parker Pie Co. in West Glover has expanded again. This time the work was in the kitchen, but the addition was a necessity. The new space allows for more efficient cooking, and a few new pieces of equipment that are leading to some menu additions.
