NEWPORT–St. Johnsbury netted two second half goals in what turned out to be a very physical contest as the Hilltoppers blanked the Falcons 2-0.
"It was a 1-0 game and adrenaline was very high. We are still in the game and then on a goofy play they countered and it kind of took the wind out of our sails," said coach James McKenny.
Said St. J coach Stephen Levesque, "We had to match their intensity. They (NCU) came out from the get-go and I wanted our kids to win their individual battles and we did a much better job of that in the second half."
NEWPORT–UCA's boy’s soccer team had its' largest outpouring of offense of the season, scoring six goals to defeat Concord 6-0 on Saturday.
"We had a great game," said coach Alyssa DeLaBruere about the win. "We worked all week on passing and communication and it paid off."
It was a new look Crusaders who took to the field at Gardner Park.
Jon DeLaBruere took his brother's place in goal while Chris moved up to the mid-field, and for a guy who hasn't played goal since he was eight years-old, Jon put up a good performance.
NEWPORT–The North Country field hockey Falcons played a very defensive game against Stowe on Saturday, but came up on the losing end of the 1-0 contest.

In the first half, Stowe (5-3), although not on the top of their game as of late due to illness, showed why they usually field a strong club, controlling play and spending roughly eighty-five percent of the time in the North Country end.

Editor’s note: Filmmaker and arts impresario Jay Craven has been telling his story of the day and night he spent trying to get Chuck Berry to honor his contract and perform in the Northeast Kingdom. He continues his story this week, where he left off — getting Chuck Berry to finally agree to get in his car and drive to the St. Louis airport. But time was very tight and Jay has to promise he’d come up with an additional $2500 to motivate Berry to make the trip to Lyndonville.
Time was wasting and Chuck Berry was still negotiating—even after I agreed to his terms.
NEWPORT CITY – Thursday, Judge H.E. VanBenthuysen held Daniel Greenwood, 36 of Orleans, on $100,000 bail for a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges.

ORLEANS–Shaquille Urie scored arguably the prettiest goal of the season for Lake Region, heading the ball past Hazen's Murphy Simmons seven minutes into the second half to secure the Rangers' 2-1 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon.
Lake Region got off to the hot start, and if it wasn't for Simmons heroics in goal, the score would have been much more lopsided.
His first big save came against eventual goal scorer Urie.
Jeremy Dean had the ball deep in Hazen territory when he lofted a cross into the middle of the box.
