Local Historian To Recognize World War II Veterans

NEWPORT CITY – Journalist Tom Brokaw coined the phrase “The Greatest Generation” to describe those who grew up during the Great Depression and fought in World War II. On Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m., Scott Wheeler, a history writer from the Northland Journal, will host a public gathering at the Goodrich Memorial Library to recognize those veterans.

Longtime Local Journalist Nick Burdick Dies

Nick Burdick, a longtime writer for The Express and the Chronicle, died Sunday at the VA Hospital in White River Junction after battling cancer. He was 65.

On March 16, 2015 Edith Jean Foley (Swanekamp) passed on to her just reward, at the age of 80 in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years John J. Foley Jr, in 2008 and by a daughter Laura Jean Foley in 2012, and brother Frederick Swanekamp in 2001.
