Seniors Lead Charger Charge, Pick Up Decisive 6-0 Win

October 4, 2014

CRAFTSBURY-A bright and sunny afternoon was the backdrop for Senior Day for the Craftsbury boys soccer team, as the Chargers hosted the Chelsea Red Devils for a Division IV soccer match.
After getting back into the win column earlier in the week against Whitcomb, the Chargers took the field looking to continue their latest success, which they accomplished by dominating the game and picking up the 6-0 win over the opposing Chelsea side.

Five Players Score in Falcons’ Win Over Milton

October 2, 2014

NEWPORT–It had been a long time in between home games for the North Country field hockey squad.
The last time the girls took the field at their home campus was on on the 11th of September against Lyndon, a game which they won.
After a tough 1-0 loss against Spaulding this past weekend, a little home cooking was just the tonic that the team needed to get back to their winning ways, as they rallied back from an early 1-0 deficit, scoring five unanswered goals on their way to a 5-1 victory.

Free Kicks, Set Plays Doom Falcons Against St. J

October 1, 2014

NEWPORT–On Wednesday afternoon it was the North Country boys soccer team's turn to take on the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers, as they hosted the green and white in a matinee match-up.
The Falcons played an inspiring brand of soccer, but a couple of miscues that led to free kicks would be their undoing, as they fell by the score of 3-2.
"We had some lapses in our thinking and they made it count," said NC coach James McKenny. "They took advantage of the set plays and the free kicks, and it is a matter of minutes that make the difference in these games."

Wright, Davis Strike in Second to Send Falcons Past Hilltoppers

October 1, 2014

NEWPORT–After a slow paced first half that saw little offensive action, the North Country Falcons popped in two goals in the second to pick up a 2-0 win over the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers under the lights on Veteran's Field.
"We knew that first goal was going to be it," said NC coach Jose Batista. "If they would have scored first who knows, it might have been two to nothing for them, but we got and we were able to score second goal by Devinnie. It was a good team effort and it was a good win."

Falcon Boys and Girls Come Away With Team Wins in Stowe

October 1, 2014

STOWE-What a day at the races for North Country cross country today.
The XC team was down at Stowe for a meet against Stowe, Lamoille, Lake Region, and Hazen.
The day prior to the meet, the race director/coach of Stowe sent an email and within the email she told me the course records for the boys and girls on this course.
They were both ironically set in 2010 (16:51 by Josef Bourgeois NCUHS and 20:21 by Jamie Thomas, Harwood) under similar conditions to today’s race – high 50s/low 60s and overcast.
Would the 2014 Falcons be able to set new records?

Tide Shuts Out Hard Luck Falcons, Win 2-0

September 29, 2014

NEWPORT–Snake bitten.
There is no other way to describe the North Country boys soccer team.
On Monday afternoon the Falcons took on the Spaulding Crimson Tide for the second time in as many games, and despite putting thirteen shots on goal and having a penalty kick, the team could not find the back net as they fell to visiting squad 2-0.

Urie Strikes in Overtime as Lady Rangers Earn 7th Win

September 28, 2014

ORLEANS–A bright and beautiful Saturday morning that found the Northeast Kingdom awash in a sea of changing leaves served as the backdrop for a Division II-Division III soccer showdown between the Lake Region Lady Rangers and BFA Fairfax Bullets.
BFA would strike first, but a late surge by the Lady Rangers would see the blue and white tie the game in the final ten minutes of regulation and eventually win the contest in overtime, as Brooke Morley set up Tyrah Urie for the deciding goal in the extra session.

Lady Chargers Fall, Falcon Girls Tie, More in Weekend Round-up

September 28, 2014

GIRLS SOCCER
Burke 3, Craftsbury 0
EAST BURKE–The Craftsbury girls soccer team was in action against the Burke Burkies on Saturday.
The Lady Chargers knew from the opening kickoff that this was going to be a very fast paced match. In the opening minutes, both Craftsbury players and fans were taken aback by a bullet of a shot that rattled off the near post off the foot of a Burke striker. Despite being targeted for 13 shots in the first half, Charger goalkeeper Paige Coolbeth kept her cool and defended her net, allowing the team to be knotted in a 0-0 draw at halftime.

Charger Boys Run into to Hard-Playing Burkies, Fall 2-1

September 28, 2014

BURKE–After the first game of the girls/boys Alumni Day soccer doubleheader, fans, parents and alumni alike once again gathered on top of the hill to witness the Craftsbury Charger and the Burke Burkie boys do battle.
It would be a low scoring affair, as each team netted a goal in regulation, but in the extra session it would be the Burkies coming out on top, as they picked up the 2-1 victory.

BFA tops Lake Region in Quite the Physical Contest

September 26, 2014

ORLEANS- In a bruising contest that saw both coaches get yellow cards, the Bullets defeated the Lake Region Rangers 3-1.
BFA went up two to nothing in the first half before Austin Roberge cut the deficit by one with a goal in the second.
But despite a ton of pressure and a lot of chances, the Rangers could not find the equalizer.
BFA would add another one late, as they picked up the win.
We will have the full story in the Express on 9-29-14.
