Rice Dispatches Falcons 3-0 in Play-off Match

October 26, 2011

NEWPORT-The stage was set. A rested healthy North Country Falcons girl’s soccer team was poised and ready to defend home turf in Division One’s first round. With ten victories recorded during the fall campaign, this team was coming off seven straight wins. A seasoned group of Falcons girls had gone through the soccer wars together with the core dominated by proud seniors.
Rice Memorial had other ideas. The Green Knights struck for two goals in the games first 7 minutes and controlled play for large segments of the game winning the first round match 3-0.

Craftsbury would head to the half only trailing by a score of 1-0.

Urie Propels Rangers into Second Round

October 25, 2011

ORLEANS–It took a long time, but it was well worth the wait as Shaquille Urie scored with just over four minutes to play in regulation to give Lake Region a 1-0 win over Mill River and send them into the second round of the play-offs.
"I thought we played relatively well given the field conditions," said Coach Evans.
For the bulk of game on Tuesday it was the Rangers who were dictating the pace of play on a beaten up and muddy LRUHS field. The team came out early and was aggressive on the ball, winning 50/50 battles and keeping the play in the Mill River end.

With Dale Martell out due to a Concussion from their game in Canaan on Tuesday, the Crusaders went to Richford with an 11 man roster.
Chris DeLaBruere once again had a stand out performance in the net including a few saves that would make any highlight reel.

October 23, 2011

NEWPORT– The North Country Falcons opened the playbook up to a few more new chapters as the hometown boys knocked off Burr and Burton’s Bulldogs 36-24 on senior night at Veterans Field.
The Falcons got a pair of scoring runs from their outstanding tailback Nick LeClair. The speedy number twenty-four went in from seven yards out as he veered right at the four, shrugging off the last linebacker in the first quarter. In the second quarter, with NC facing a fourth and four from the six, LeClair popped outside and ran over a safety at the goal line on his way to his second scoring play.

Falcons Tie Lyndon 1-1 in Darkness Shortened Game

October 23, 2011

LYNDON– A late official and ensuing darkness combined to cheat the North Country Field hockey team out of a chance at win number two on Friday.
“We could have had the game,” said Coach Bouchard, “We dominated the second half.”
With only one official at the field for the start of the game the J/V teams got the chance at an early start time, delaying the start of the varsity match.

Falcons Lose 1-0 to Colchester in Season Finale

October 20, 2011

NEWPORT–A long trying season has probably come to an end for the North Country boys soccer team. With their 1-0 loss to Colchester yesterday, the team is mathematically eliminated from the play-offs, although a small ray of hope exists if one Vermont school’s budget does not pass, then said school will be forced to put all of their extra curricular activities on the shelf.
As for Thursday's action, it was an emotional, physical game at Falcon field that saw North Country have several chances to score, but fall short in their attempts.
