Lake Region Sets Personal Bests in St. Albans

On Friday May 13 the Lake Region Boys competed at the Bobwhite Relays. The boys took 16 athletes to this event and competed in 6 field relays and 7 track relays. There were 12 different schools at this meet from all three divisions. The Rangers set many personal records at this meet and beat a few of the schools relay records from past Bobwhite Meets.

Ranger Baseball Splits in Weekend Action

The Lake Region baseball team went 1-1 in weekend action.
Friday saw Lake Region unload on Stowe for a 14-4 victory, but Saturday was a much tougher day as they fell to Winooski 6-3.
Tyler Jacobs picked up the win in game one while Kyle Perry was saddled with loss in game two.

Lady Rangers Win in Extra Frames

ORLEANS-There are many ways to win a softball game, and when one way doesn’t work, manager Matt Tinker’s team has found other ways to get it done.
The Ranger girls broke open a close 2-2 game in the fifth with four runs only to see Stowe get four of their own in the top of the seventh, sending the game into extra frames.
It ended in the bottom of the ninth as Stephanie Merchant laid down a perfect suicide squeeze, plating Whitney Poginy with the game winner, giving the Lady Rangers their best nine game start in school history at 7-2.

Falcons Drop Rangers 7-0 in Girls Tennis

NEWPORT– The North Country girls tennis team defeated Lake Region by the score of 7-0 on Friday afternoon at Prouty Beach.
The Falcons lost only two sets during the match, as they out played the Rangers all afternoon.
Lake Region was forced to place their number one player Desirae Colorado in the number three spot, as she was dealing with some injury issues and not functioning at one hundred percent. She would eventually lose to Kelsey O’Donnell, NCU’s number three. Taking her spot at number one was Kelly Leblanc who fell to Falcons ace Martha Petzoldt.

Boys Golf Takes Third at Home Meet

North Country took third place in their first home match of the year on Friday with a team score of 336.
Here are the NCU Individual Results: Dylan Gobeil 82, James Grondin 82,Nick Kincaid 85, Logan Fortier 87, Brendan Betts 99.

Buckles Paces Falcons to Victory

NEWPORT– Cris Buckles came in to pitch in the top of the 2nd with the bases loaded and one out and never looked back. The senior reliever ended up going the rest of the way, striking out eight while only surrendering one run as North Country came back from an early 5-0 deficit to beat St. J on Saturday.
Jason Hatin was 4-4 with 2 doubles, and Tom Blake was 3-4 for the Falcons.

Falcons Raise $1,600.00 to Fight Cancer

The North Country Girls softball team raised close to $1,600.00 on Saturday to help fight cancer. They held a variety of events at the team's field after their loss to St. Johnsbury. The event included such activities a fun run for kids and homerun derby.

Harwood Slows Down Falcons

NEWPORT– North Country's girls tennis team ran into very good Harwood squad on Wednesday, halting their two game winning streak. The only Falcon to pick up a win was Alana Perry playing in the number five slot, as she went over Elizabeth Defreest 7-6, 6-3.
There was some good news for North Country as doubles players Mollie O'Keefe and Briana Treadwell returned to action after missing time from competition for a variety of reasons.
North Country will wrap up its four games in five days today when they square off against Lake Region at Prouty Beach.

SOUTH BURLINGTON–The North Country Girls Golf Team competed at Vermont Nationals in South Burlington on Wednesday, May 11. Coach Brian Hampton brought Bailey Walker and Eilish Muir.
Junior Bailey Walker, who is in her third year of golf, had a rough game overall during the competition.
“I don’t really know where I was going wrong,” said Walker, “It just took me a long time to get on the green.”
Walker finished the 9th hole strong with an off the green putt for par. Her teammate, Eilish Muir, also a junior, had trouble chipping and putting.

North Country Dominates Home Meet

NEWPORT– The North Country boys and girls track and field teams both took home first place overall finishes at their lone home meet of the season.
The boys finished with a score of 127 total points, more than doubling second place MVU's 61.5. The girls competition was much closer, with the Falcons holding off Missisiquoi by ten points, ending the day with a team total of 79.
