ORLEANS–The 3rd Annual Northeast Kingdom Junior Golf Tour swung into action on Thursday afternoon at the Orleans Country Club.
For the second year in a row, the day began with a one hour clinic that had OCC Club Pro Josh Olney and Newport Country Club Pro Kin O'Neil giving the kids instruction and helpful points on improving their golf technique.
"For most of the PGA Professionals, we have a lot of goals, but I think our biggest goal is to grow the game through junior golf, and that is exactly what is going on here," said Olney. "All clubs are trying to grow their clubs and grow their memberships and it starts with the juniors, getting these kids out here and giving them a competitive format and a fun atmosphere."
Said O'Neil, who has been with the Tour since its inception, "It is just great to see the young kids today come out and try to play golf and enjoy themselves, laugh, and have fun.
"They meet kids their age and it is just an enjoyment to see, no matter how good they play or how bad they play. The friendships they are going to make in the golf game are endless. It is very nice and touching."
