Albany voters were happy to do just about anything – except give the fire department a generator – until the article’s wording was changed. Photo: Jane Peters

ALBANY – Townspeople came from all corners of the town – south, east, the Center, and west for the annual Town Meeting, a dying Vermont tradition. Attendance was low again this year – miniscule.
There are 652 registered voters; only 91 showed up for the morning and only 59 returned after lunch. This portion of the day included the school budget and the rest of the original town meeting.
The school budget of $1,714,384 passed quicker than hot oil through a funnel. But the request for $9,500 for a generator for the Volunteer Fire Department brought hot and heavy discussions.

For the rest of this story and other Town Meeting results, see The Newport Daily Express for Wednesday, March 6, and Thursday, March 7, 2013.
