SOFTBALL
Oxbow 7, Lake Region 5
OXBOW–The Lake Region Lady Rangers kicked off their season against the defending Division III Champion Oxbow Olympians on Tuesday.
Lake Region made it close late, but the Olympians held on for the win.
"With four girls in the starting line-up who have never played high school ball, I thought we acquitted ourselves quite well," said LR coach Matt Tinker.
The Lady Rangers got out to fast start, plating two runs in the first on extra base hits by Alyssa Royer and Michelle Thibeault.
The Olympians scored a run in each of the first three innings, but saved their best for the fifth, when they put up a four spot to take a 7-2 lead.
Lake Region scored three in the seventh, and had the winning at the plate before a tough call went against them at third to end the game.
Thibeault took the loss, but had an excellent day at the dish, going 3-3 with 3 RBI's.
Royer had a triple and Corrina Cota had a hit and a stolen base.
Melanie Gagnon and Kalah Poginy each had strong defensive days in the outfield.
