BIG CHANGES FOR STATE HEATING ASSISTANCE

August 26, 2013

Big changes in the works for fuel assistance customers.

MONTPELIER – Vermonters who receive government heating fuel assistance will most likely see changes in their benefits this winter.
The Department of Children and Families will hold a public hearing sometime within the next four to six weeks on the changes. The Vermont Legislative Council will hold a public hearing later on.
One change will affect about 3,000 out of 26,000 Vermont households. Crises fuel assistance will be reduced from three to one fuel delivery per winter for anyone whose income qualified for seasonal fuel assistance, and two fuel assistance deliveries for anyone over the income limit for seasonal assistance, but still within the crises fuel assistance guidelines.
