CRAFTSBURYâEntering Monday night's game against the Richford Rockets, Craftsbury's Janet Bohannon needed just three points to reach the 1,000 career point plateau.
She wasted little time getting there, firing home a three pointer ten seconds into the contest, drawing a thunderous ovation from the packed Craftsbury Gymnasium.
"I didn't think it was going in. When I got the ball I thought 'here's my chance.,'" said Bohannon after the game. "Coach and I had talked about shooting the three at the start of the game, and it just happened just like that.
"I really want to thank all of my AAU coaches who put up with me for all of these years, my coach Rick, my parents for supporting me and everyone who came out and cheered me on."
Said coach Rick Thomas, "It was just like we drew it up. We were hoping that we could get it over with early, and I say that with the most respect, because we knew this was going to be a tough ball game. We wanted her mind focused on the team.
âShe is a kid that has kept this all in perspective, and she wants to get this team to the Barre Auditorium."
Upon scoring the basket, Bohannon slid across the court the way a baseball player would do during a rain delay.
She was mobbed by her teammates, giving her huge hugs as she made her way back to her feet.
"I was very and nervous and anxious wondering how long it would take, and once it happened I was relieved,â said Janet's mom, Darcy Bohannon.
After a brief interview by WCAX, the ten starting players returned to the court and the game resumed in what eventually become a 45-41 win for the Lady Chargers.
