THE CUSP OF MUD SEASON
DERBY – Warmer temperatures, rain showers and slick roads are a sign mud season has begun. Derby Road Department employee Terry Tice said while the frost has started to come out, the roads are holding up well so far. Of greater concern this week have been culverts overflowing on several roads in town. “There's lots of places where we are dealing with water running over the top of the snow because the ground is still frozen, but the runoff is unable to flow into frozen culverts,” Tice stated. “But the only problem I'm aware of are complaints about logging trucks rutting up part of the Glover Road.” Tice said he would talk to the loggers to remind them to stop hauling logs for a few weeks. For more of this story, see Thursday's edition of The Newport Daily Express for March 14, 2013.
