Cy Abdelnour

December 8, 1946-October 31, 2011

Cy Abdelnour, 64, of Holland, Vermont, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2011 after a long illness. Cy was born on December 8, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Moses and Ollie (Abraham) Abdelnour. His father predeceased him.
Cy attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College (Miami, Oklahoma), where he played football, and graduated from the University of Miami (FL). He deeply enjoyed sharing his love of football with youth, and was head coach of the North Country Junior Falcons for many years.
Cy’s professional life included 30 years as a social worker with the State of Vermont Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (now DCF). He assisted many children and families in difficult situations. He spent the last years of his career with SRS as an adoption social worker.
He is survived by his wife Ines Abdelnour, also of Holland, and by his children: son Scott Ponce and his wife Ingrid, of Coral Gables, Florida; daughter Allison Ponce and her husband Thomas Bontly, of New Haven, Connecticut; and son Thomas Abdelnour, of Hartford, Connecticut.
Others who survive him include his grandchildren: Isabel and Elijah Ponce, and Adeline Bontly. He is also survived by his mother, Ollie Abdelnour, of Jacksonville, Florida; his brother, Thomas Abdelnour, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his sister, Cynthia Ramski of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and by nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his dear aunt, Ida Davis of Jacksonville.
A private, family funeral will be held at the convenience of the family.
