Falcons Rally Falls Short in 6-4 Loss to South Burlington

SO. BURLINGTON– The Falcons rallied to make it 5-4 with three minutes to go in the third period, but the Rebels were able to add an insurance goal with 2:20 left to play sealing the 6-4 win in the highly anticipated rematch between South Burlington and North Country on Wednesday night.
"It was a hard fought come from behind loss," said NCU coach Andrew Roy.
The Falcons were playing without defenseman Logan Fortier, who is on a school trip.
Thankfully Brody Jacobs has returned to the line-up, allowing a three man rotation, something NCU is more than used to.
Said Roy, "Our D played great, but our overall team defense was not so hot."
North Country got a goal from Ryan Paul in the first, but trailed 2-1 after one.
The Rebels added another goal in the second, and heading into the final period, the Falcons had a two goal obstacle to overcome.
They would come close, getting goals on Ross DeLaBruere's slapper on a pass from Ryan O'Donnell, another slap-shot, this one from Jacobs on a pass from O'Donnell and Paul's second tally of the night, but two more Rebel scores in third were too much for NCU to overcome.
"They are the best team in the state right now," said Roy when asked if SBUHS was the top dog in the Metro Division.
The good news is that in two games against the 12-2 Rebels, the Falcons have been right in the mix. The first contest was a penalty filled disaster, and this one was a two goal affair played without the top defenseman in the state, so, if these two meet in the play-offs, it should be another great match-up.
Chris Bronson had thirty-four saves in the loss, while North Country had twenty shots on the Rebel net.
Standing at 10-3-1, North Country is slated to host second ranked Essex (10-2-2) on Saturday. As for now the game is still on, but if the heavy snows fall, check out the North Country Union high School website for updates on the game's status.
