NEWPORT CENTER – Fire officials are crediting the owners of Guay General Repair in Newport Center for saving their own property from disaster Monday. Firefighters responded to the business on Route 100 at about 12:30 p.m.
Dan Guay said that he used fire extinguishers and a high pressure washer to knock down the fire.
“They did a really good knock down,” said Newport Center Fire Chief Kurk Flynn, who was also referring to Dan’s brother, Ben Guay. “When we got there, we still had fire but it was hidden on us. We had to cut into the roof to get up into the attic area. It was kind of a tricky fire.”
