Four Rangers Find Back of the Cage in Win Over Richford
ORLEANS–Thursday was senior day for the Lake Region boy's soccer team, as they hosted Richford for their final regular season home match. The five Ranger seniors, Josh Thibault, Alex Beauregard, Jeremy Dean, Isiah Palmer and Dominick Turcotte, as well as manager Corrina Cota, were honored before the game, and three of them, Thibault, Beauregard and Palmer scored in Lake Region's 4-1 over the Falcons."It was a good match all around," LRU coach Tom Evans said about Thursday's contest. Evans also spoke about his seniors, saying, "You got to love them. Our seniors worked hard throughout their time (with the program), and you just got to love them."It took Lake Region only five minutes to get on the scoreboard. After some good work by Palmer, Beauregard and Turcotte down low, Thibault got a hold of a loose ball and blasted it past Richford goalie Matteo Mosotto to stake the blue and white to the early advantage.Three minutes later was Beauregard's turn to find the back of the cage as he turned and delivered on a ball, and just like that it was 2-0 Rangers.Turcotte almost had his first goal on a pass from Alex, but he couldn't convert.Richford earned their first shot on goal at the 18:20 marker, but Danny Epinette was there to make one of his two first-half saves.Dylan Lahar had a chance to score the Rangers' third goal of the game on a great individual effort, but he was foiled at the last second.Less than a minute later Palmer would capitalize on a pass by Kolby George, firing a short-side shot underneath the crossbar to stretch the lead to three.Up 3-0 at the start of the second, the Rangers were looking to get the ball to Dominick, and try the did.Turcotte got looks from all over the 18 on a series of great passes, but the poor guy was just snake bitten, and he just couldn't seem to get the ball on net.George on the other hand was able to use his head to knock home the fourth Lake Region goal. With the Rangers firmly in control, coach Evans continued to play his bench as well as some of the JV players he brought up for the game. One person that didn't get much of a rest down the stretch was Turcotte, and Dominick's best look of the half came with 8:41 left in the second, but Mosotto stopped him from point blank range."Dominick worked hard, and I was hoping, and still am hoping that he is going to get a goal this season," Evans said about Turcotte.Richford's Chris Brown was able to break the Ranger shut-out with 7:55 left to go when he slid one past Caleb Derbyshire, who had come in to play goal in the second half. That would be it for the scoring, as the Rangers held on for the win as they move to 10-2-2 in 2013.Epinette and Derbyshire combined to make four saves, while Mosotto stopped a staggering twenty shots.Lake Region will closed out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to take on Hazen.Game time is 11:00.
