NEWPORT CITY - Christmas cheer was in the air recently as children of all ages attended a holiday celebration at the Goodrich Memorial Library, one of the region's architectural gems.
Local performer Mark Shelton, also known as Captain Radical, dressed in his pirate outfit and sang holiday tunes and other favorites.
One big hit was when Shelton sang the Village People's "YMCA" while Rudolph, the Grinch and a gorilla performed the dance moves. During other pieces, children dance in the aisles, swirling cowboy hats and laughing.
"This is fun," said one child.
During a break in the action, the youngsters enjoyed cookies and each other's company.
Later, Santa, with special help from Tom Johnson, read from his “naughty and nice” list and handed out presents. The youngsters also whispered their special wishes in Santa's ear.
