ORLEANS – “The goal for the season is to compete, be productive and have an athlete compete in every event.” Those were the words of Coach Auclair during a preseason workout.
This season’s squad will be larger than usual, with 20 girls and 16 boys making up the 36 member team. 10 freshmen have also made the jump to the track and field team.
With the recent Division realignment, the team will still maintain its Division 3 placement. While the Vermont Principal’s Association opted to move the school to D-2, the Track and Field Federation expanded their divisions from 3 to 4 and they decided to keep the Blue and White right where they are.
Returning seniors: Canaan McKenzie, Matthew Lyon, Seth Lawson, and Mitchael Budziak, along with new seniors Jon Bacon, Garrett Rockwell and Angus Gluck will play a huge role in the leadership of the team.
Other members of the team: Tyler Perry, Charlie Epinette, Clark Hayden, Josh Thibault, Trey Lalime, Cody Doloff and Dennis Newland are expected to mentor and show the newcomers, Ian Strange and Evan McKenzie, the ins and outs of the track and field setting.
On the girls side the senior leadership rest of the shoulders of Hannah Hahn. The 4-term track participant is ready for a break-out season following a strong indoor campaign. Johanna Gercke, Lisa Loffler, Tanja Jensen, Katie Powers, Ashley Lackie, Corinne Lawson, Emily Bouffard, Emily Millar, Shannon Eubanks, Averill Snyder and Elise Morissette make up the returning members of the team. Paving the way for the large group of 8 freshmen who are determined to leave their mark at Lake Region.
Emily Lawson, Tori Adams and Amber Bernier are trying to prove their merit as 3-sport athletes. While Althea Holland, Emily Close, Anna Willis and Gratia Rowell round out the squad.
Even with the addition of the new talent coach Auclair still feels strongly about this team and is confident that another banner can be hung on the wall of the Don Harter Memorial Gymnasium.
The team kicks off their 2012 campaign tomorrow when they travel to St. Albans and compete against Hazen, Peoples Academy, Spaulding and BFA- Fairfax
