NEWPORT, VT - The MAC Center for the Arts on Main Street in Newport hosted a wine and cheese opening for their latest bi-monthly exhibit, “Snow and Ice,” Friday. Jim McKimm, creative director of the center, described it as “a history of winter sports in the area, which includes Newport, North Troy, and Jay Peak.” The story is told by old photos, stories, skis, and snowshoes contributed by 10 local artists.
Old photographs and stories taken from Scott Wheeler’s Dec. 2005 Northland Journal article, mounted on poster size boards, make up a large portion of the collection. People reflected on local slopes, including Chamberlain Birch off the Glen Road, run by the Newport Outing Club.
