Mt. Abraham Rallies to Defeat Lady Rangers 2-1

ORLEANS–Meghan Livingston broke a 1-1 tie with 11:37 remaining in the second half to lift the twelfth ranked Mount Abraham Eagles (10-4-2) over the number four seed Lake Region during the Division II quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon.
The goal came after a solid seventeen minutes of sustained Eagle pressure in the Ranger end of the field.
"The girls gave an awesome effort out their," said Eric Degre. "Unfortunately in the second, they got a bunch of shots in a row and eventually scored."
As the action unfurled in the first half, both teams looked fairly equal.
The Lady Rangers had the first good chance of the game just three minutes in.
Tyrah Urie hit Mikayla Royer with a pass, but Mt. Abe keeper Ashlie Fay came out to meet the ball and scoop it up.
A corner followed by a direct kick midway through the half gave the Eagles their first opportunities, but both were turned away by the Lake Region defenders.
With 15:10 left to play, the Lady Rangers went ahead on a pretty goal by Drew Neal.
Sabrina Roberge, who played a fantastic game, started the play, going up the left side of the field, feeding the ball to Tori Adams.
Adams in turn carried it a little further, then dished to Neal, who got by the last Eagle fullback and fired the ball past Fay for the tally.
Ten minutes later, Evy Jacobs' cross-body shot beat Jordyn Cowles lower left to tie the game at one.
It could have been 2-1 very easily, but Cowles' beautiful diving save with :20 left kept the score at 1-1 going into the break.
In the second the Rangers pressured early.
Caitlyn Bernier sent Urie in all alone, but she missed wide.
Corrina Cota sent a great ball into the 18 where Royer got a head on it, but Fay made the save.
Direct kicks by Urie and super defender Sarah Burnham also went by the wayside for Lake Region, and that would be all from the home team for a long while.
Mount Abe really stepped up their game ten minutes into the second, and Cowles had to be sharp.
Multiple waves of offense by the Eagles kept the Lady Rangers hemmed in their own end for an extended stretch of time, and it was only a matter of who, not when, someone was going to score for the visiting team.
That someone was Livingston, whose low shot beat Cowles to put Mt. Abe ahead to stay.
Lake Region didn't quit though, they fought back, and had a very good final eight minutes.
Their best chance came on another Urie breakaway with 4:44 left to go.
In a very uncharacteristic move, and I say so because she has been spot on all season long, Tyrah put a slow shot right at Fay, who easily made the save.
Amber Bernier got the final crack at the net, but it too was turned away, and for the second straight day, the Lake Region faithful had to endure a difficult loss on their home field.
Fay had six saves in the win, while Cowles had seven for Lake Region, who wrapped up their season with a 12-4 showing.
The big question now is who will be at the helm of the Lady Rangers in 2013.
