ORLEANS - Dennis Newland recorded a crucial second half save on a penalty kick and added an assist minutes later to help lift Lake Region to their fourth win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Enosburg.
As Lake Region clung to a 1-0 lead in the game's closing minutes, Newland, a junior goal keeper, blocked a crucial penalty kick and proceeded minutes later to launch a punt bound for fellow junior Alex Beauregard.
Beauregard pocketed the well-placed ball into the back of the net, sealing the Ranger's victory and a 4-1 start to the 2012 season.
"It was a good win in a physical game," head coach Tom Evans said. "The players kept their composure and played very well at times."
Evans credited good ball and player movement for the win against an always pesky Enosburg squad that has given LR fits in recent years.
Anthony Wright scored the Rangers' first goal, sending a ball from 20 yards out into the back of the net. Shaquille Urie set up the shot with a nifty heel pass to help give Lake Region the early advantage.
Junior Varsity: Lake Region's junior varsity team took home a 4-0 win over Enosburg, using a pair of goals from Austin Roberge, and solo tallies from Kolby George and Dillon Gile
