NEWPORT–With a steady drizzle making playing conditions less than ideal, the North Country 12-U baseball team quickly and efficiently disposed of Northfield 10- in four innings on Tuesday evening.
Aidan Gariepy paced the maroon and blue, blasting a three-run home run in the first for the game winning runs, and then ended the game with an RBI single in the fourth.
Much like the day before, Vermont State Cal Ripken Commissioner Bernie Gonyaw opened the day with a ceremonial first pitch.
Then North Country went to work.
Derrick Breault got the start for the home team, and he would surrender no hits in three innings on the hill.
Noah Gonthier, who we last saw going five innings against Glover in the Majors' championship game, came in for the fourth and kept the no-hitter intact, as the duo combined for the two-man no-hit outing.
On the offensive front, Gariepy's first inning jack set the pace, and the rest of the team followed suit.
Dylan Gunn went two-for-three, with a triple, a single and two runs scored.
Jacob Provost had a two-run single, and Derrick Breault was one-for-one with two walks and three runs scored.
With the win, the boys will now square off against what looks to be a very good Lake Region team on Thursday at 6:00.
