NEWPORT, VT - This year's Penguin Plunge was a huge success. An estimated 175 participants brought in about $26,000 to benefit the Vermont Special Olympics.
The water was freezing, the air was worse, yet these brave souls risked it all for the cause.
Among those participating was a team from North Country Hospital who dived in with white lab coats on. The Lake Region Team, which had been practicing for the event, danced slowly into the water to the beat of loud music played from the Newport Gateway building.
Onlookers wrapped in warm coats, mittens and hats, cheered their teams.
