Rangers Win, Falcons Lose in Girls Soccer

September 26, 2013

Lake Region 3, Danville 0
DANVILLE–Lake Region coach Brad Urie decided to bring up some players from the JV squad for the Lady Rangers' game against the Danville Indians, and the move paid off, as freshman call-up Margo Foster scored her first career varsity goal as part of the team's win over the Indians.
"Margo played quite well, as did the other younger players, Hunter Cota and Jenna Charland," said Urie.
But it wasn't just the youngsters making contributions, as juniors Haely Kennedy and Tori-Lynne Adams scored the first two goals of the game.
Haely kicked off the action, converting a feed from Tyrah Urie for the opening goal eight minutes into the contest.
It would stay 1-0 in favor of the Rangers until early in the second when Adams picked up a loose ball in front of the Indian cage and banged it home.
Foster wrapped up the scoring when she took a feed from Megan Menard and buried it in the net.
Jordyn Cowles made 6 saves to earn the shut-out, while Danville's Dani Cochran stopped 12 of 15.
Now 5-1, the girls will head over to Franklin County on Saturday for a 11:00 match with the BFA Fairfax Bullets.
BHS 3, NCU 1
BURLINGTON-Three second half goals by the Burlington Seahorses sealed the fate of the North Country girls soccer team, as they drop to 2-5 in 2013.
"We played hard and I was pleased with that," said NCU coach Peter Alexander.
Tied 0-0 going into the second, Burlington scored the eventual game winner 11 minutes into the half off of rebound from a dead-ball shot.
The Seahorses then tacked on two more goals for insurance, and the rest was history.
Jenna Moss played a strong game, stopping 12 shots for the Falcons, while the BHS netminder had to make just 3 saves in the win.
The Falcons will play their Maniatty-weekend game on Saturday at 10:00 against Spaulding.
