From the Road: Falcons Rangers Win, UCA Ties

October 3, 2012

BOYS SOCCER
North Country 2, So. Burlington 1
SOUTH BURLINGTON–Kody Halikas netted the game winner in the second half, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving the Falcons (2-6-1) the win over the Rebels (3-5-1).
South Burlington got on the board first in what coach James McKenny described as an awful half of soccer for North Country.
"It was like a Jekyll and Hyde kind of game for us," said McKenny. "The first half the guys were not really into it, but they came out in the second half with a much better effort."
In the second, Ryan Paul let loose a left-footed bomb from thirty feet out to tie things at one apiece.
Minutes later, Halikas got the game winner on a ball from thirty-five feet out on a shot that McKenny couldn't tell if it was a a shot, or if Kody was just trying to get the ball into the box.
Either way it went in and North Country held on for the 2-1 win.
Logan Fortier was tremendous in the game, stopping seventeen shots in the contest.
Next up will be the MMU Cougars on Friday afternoon at 4:00 as part of the homecoming festivities at North Country this weekend.
Lake Region 5, Enosburg 1
ENOSBURG FALLS - After falling behind early, Lake Region regrouped and struck back for a 5-1 victory against Enosburg in boys soccer action Tuesday.
The Rangers (7-2) were propelled with a pair of goals from juniors Josh Thibault and Alex Beauregard, and a solo tally from Anthony Wright, also a junior. Wright added a trio of helpers while Shaquille Urie added two.
"It wasn't a pretty thing, but it was effective," said Evans. "I'm proud of them, they were down on the road, and scrapped back and really took it to (Enosburg)."
Lake Region's seventh win of the season gives them a firm grip on third place in the Division II boys soccer standings, behind undefeated Burr and Burton (7-0) and Montpelier (8-0).
UCA 3, Trinity Baptist 3 2OT
WILLISTON– Ji Kim had his second straight hat-trick as United Christian and Trinity Baptist played to a 3-3 draw on Tuesday.
Trinity had defeated UCA 3-0 in their previous match, so the draw is great example of the tenacity that the Crusaders have show this season.
The tie moves the Crusaders to 4-3-1 while Trinity stands at 1-1-1.
UCA will square off against Craftsbury today in Craftsbury at 4:00.
FIELD HOCKEY
North Country 0, St. Johnsbury 0
ST. JOHNSBURY–After soundly beating the Hilltoppers the first time they played, the Falcons had visions of win number three in their heads as they met the Academy for game number two.
St. J had different ideas, and while thoroughly outplayed by North Country, they managed to escape the game with the draw.
"We dominated them throughout the whole game, but we just couldn't score" said coach NCU Chantelle Bouchard.
The Falcons (2-6-2) had seven shots on net while St. J (0-8-1) fired 3 at Danielle Gabucci.
Playing well for NCU on Tuesday were Mara Spates, Mariah Roberts, Brittany Verge and Gubucci said Bouchard.
The Falcons will welcome U-32 to homecoming weekend on Friday at 3:45.
