Round-up: Falcon Soccer Girls Win, Charger Boys Fall, More

October 2, 2013

GIRLS SOCCER
NCU 1, ST. J 0
ST. JOHNSBURY–Myra Degre's goal with 2:43 left in the first was the difference as North Country slipped past St. Johnsbury Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
Degre's goal came on a nice through-ball from Lindsey Gaboriault that she converted on from 20 yards out.
The Falcons were without Devinnie Davis, who hopes to be back in action later this week, and Michaela Columbia, who suffered an injury over Maniatty weekend.
With the win North Country improves to 3-6, while St. J drops to 1-7-1.
The Falcons will host unbeaten CVU on Friday at 4:00.
BOYS SOCCER
Chelsea 5, Craftsbury 1
CHELSEA-Craftsbury's road woes continued as they fell hard at Chelsea on Tuesday afternoon.
"We didn't really play our game today," said CA coach Mike Reutz. "We didn't possess the ball, build any kind of attack and the pressure was on our defense all day.
Wyatt Kay had three goals to lead Chelsea (5-3-1), while Austin Massi scored Craftsbury's (4-5) only goal on pass from Anders Hanson.
The Academy will look to rebound on Friday when they host Cabot at 4:00.
CROSS COUNTRY
MORETOWN–The North Country cross country squad was in action at a race hosted by Harwood on Tuesday, and came away with two fifth place finishes.
The girls totaled 128 points, while the boys finished with 180.
Avery Ellis, who was running while feeling a bit under the weather, was the top finisher for NCU, taking home 2nd place with a time of 21:39.
"She finished well despite having a cold," said NCU coach Chris Shaffer.
Jade Dandurant (36th, 25:50), Emma Stewart (38th, 26:26), Maggie Stewart (43rd, 26:54), and Rachel Petzoldt (44th, 27:11) rounded out the Falcons' top five.
On the boys side, coach Shaffer was giving many of his top runners a break after a tough week leading up to Tuesday.
The two top finishers for the North Country boys were Alex Cope (26th, 20:16) and Parker LaCourse (41st, 21:24).
"Alex is getting stronger by the day, and Parker’s looked good as continues to work his way back from an injury," Shaffer said.
Next up for the Falcons is a trip down to Thetford for Annual Woods Trail Run this Saturday at 10:00.
