NEWPORT, VT – Well, maybe not seven exactly. More like eleven female artists were on hand at the MAC Center (Memphremagog Arts Collaborative) on Main Street, Newport, on Saturday to demonstrate their craft and honor the only Vermont commemoration of SWAN Day.
This celebration, held in 23 countries, encourages people to “support women artists now.” “The long term goal of SWAN Day,” according to the center, “is to inspire communities to recognize and support women artists as a basic element of civic planning.”
Wonderful harp music, supplied by Linda Schneck of Westmore, serenaded these swans and visitors.
Various artistic mediums were present. Mary Brenner demonstrated watercolor painting, as did Pat Lipinski. Ellie Roberts, a sterling jeweler, spoke about her eight years of training with Kerstin Nichols of the New Hampshire League of Craftsmen in Hanover, NH.
