SAN JOSE, CA-The Vermont Shamrocks kicked off the quarter-finals with a 5-1 over Grand Rapids on Saturday morning.
Five different girls scored in the win, as the team was able to spread the scoring around, creating multiple threats that girls from Michigan could not contain.
Aliza Ellis opened up the scoring 3:20 into the first when she banged home the rebound from Jade Remillard's offering.
One minute and five seconds later it was Cailee LaPorte converting a feed from Rachel Morse, and Vermont took the 2-0 advantage into the break.
Grand Rapids cut the lead to just one mid-way through period number two.
Courtney Peyko would give way to Victoria Gibson in the Shamrock net, not because of the goal, but because the team has been rotating keepers throughout tourney play, and it just happened to coincide with the goal.
The 'Rocks kept the Rapid at bay for the remainder of the frame, and restored the two-goal cushion with a minute and change left in the second on a goal by Michaela Martini.
North Country's Corrina Cota and Harwood's Hayley Martini assisted on the tally.
The third period would be the "Molly" period for the green mountain girls, as Molly Burke and Molly Dunphy each had a goal to close out the game's scoring.
With the win, the team will hit the ice at 12:45 AM on Sunday Eastern Standard Time. As of this writing, the opponent is TBA.
As always, a big thanks goes out to Jeff Cota and Desiree Hurlburt for their in-game contributions.
