GLOVER – Looking for a little Christmas Cheer? Then join Deveney Choquette and Tod Pronto from WMOO-FM. Between now and Friday, Dec. 21, the pair will be going to area nursing homes, one each day, to sing Christmas carols to the residents.
Yesterday the duo sang at the Union House in Glover.
Marie Guertin, social services director for Union House, said Pronto and Choquette brought Christmas cheer to the residents. “I think it’s good for their well being and I think it will make them happy,” said Guertin. “I really thank them (Pronto and Choquette) for coming."
Having such events keeps residents' spirits up, added Sally Hauge, activities director for the home.
The idea to sing at Union House came about when Choquette started talking on the air about when she sang Christmas carols at a nursing home as a Girl Scout. A staff member from Union House heard the conversation, called Choquette and Pronto and invited them to entertain. That invitation was followed by requests from other nursing homes in the county.
“We’re on tour,” said Choquette with a chuckle.
She and Pronto started their tour at Newport Health Care Center Monday.
“I think it’s important to spread the love,” said Pronto. We just came here to have fun. It’s nothing formal and everyone is invited to come and enjoy with us.”
It’s also about giving back to the community, he said.
