NEWPORT CITY – There are no plans to increase the number of hours state police patrol despite extensive burglaries and thefts in the Northeast Kingdom. As it is now, officers go off duty at 2 a.m.
Budgets are tight, said Sen. John Rodgers, one of three featured speakers at Monday's Legislative Breakfast.
"I don't think there are many departments that are thinking about expanding hours," said Rodgers. He said some shifts could possibly be changed to address the concerns about crimes committed during off hours. Even though police are not patrolling, they're on call, Rodgers said. "I've heard no conversation about putting more staff on or more staff hours."
