Urie Strikes Again, Goes for Four in Win Over Richford

ORLEANS–To say Tyrah Urie is off to a good start this season would be like saying that the sun is a relatively warm place to be.
Well, much like the sun, Urie is on fire.
After scoring twice in the season opener at Lyndon, she doubled her output on Saturday, banging home four more goals in a 4-1 win over Richford, bringing her season total to six, leaving her an average of a hat-trick per game in the young season.
"Sometimes when the skill isn't good and everyone's effort stay's up, you can win some soccer games," said coach Brad Urie.
With the wind wreaking havoc on the field, the Lady Rangers were able to fight through the weather, and fourteen minutes in, Urie popped in her first of the game, streaking down the right side of the field and sending the ball past Emily Germain.
As the wind continued to blow, the scoring dried up, and it was 1-0 after forty minutes of action.
In the second half, Urie this time waiting fifteen minutes instead of fourteen, found the back of the net again.
On this occasion, Tori Adams got the play in motion when she directed a ball on net, where Urie was there to finish the play.
"I thought it was going in when I put it to the corner, but I'm glad she was able to put it in," said Adams.
Two minutes later, the maroon and gold made things interesting when Alex Benoit took advantage of mishandled ball by LR goalie Jordyn Cowles, and picked up the easy goal.
Richford, getting a lift from the tally, turned the play around in their favor, but it did not last for long as Urie was waiting in the wings, capable of striking at any moment.
And when she next did, it broke the visitor's spirit.
Lake Region was awarded a direct kick just about on the far left corner of the eighteen.
Urie took the shot and sent a high ball towards the right-side post, where it strick metal, bounced off of Germain and went into the net. 3-1 Lady Rangers with 8:20 left to play.
Adams continued to be a catalyst, setting up Tyrah for her final goal of the game.
Adams crossed the ball from the right side of the net to the left where a waiting Urie easily beat new goalie Gabby Wetherby, capping off an amazing day on the pitch.
Coach Urie was pleased with his team's effort, noting how hard they worked, but he is still worried about execution.
"We've got to get better at winning the ball, settling the ball, and then making the play," he said.
"We've got to win the ball, settle it, then make the play. We have many good targets and we need to start using those targets."
Now it is off to Oxbow on Tuesday where Urie will see if his team can spread the ball around a little more against the Olympians. Game time is 4:30.
