North Country 2, U-32 0
MONTPELIER-Mikaella Doran stopped thirteen shots and the Falcons scored a pair of goals to defeat U-32 2-0 on Saturday evening.
"It was our usual M.O., we couldn't score, but we had a much better first period," said coach Claude Paul.
The Falcons did manage to get one in the first, as they out-shot the Raiders 10-5 in the period.
Emily Doty notched her second of the season, converting on a Corrina Cota pass to make it 1-0.
"Emily was more physical in this game than usual," said Paul. "She is still feeling out where the boundaries are on the physicality level, luckily tonight we had some refs who did not mind the rough stuff."
Cota would add the insurance goal in the third, scoring in the final minute of the game to give NCU the insurance tally.
Taylor Morley, who is still battling a bad back, had the assist.
North Country no stands at 6-2 while U-32 falls to 1-7.
Thursday night will find the Falcons in Hartford for a make-up game with the Hurricanes.
Puck drops at 7:00.
Lake Region 78, Enosburg 60
ORLEANSâ€“Drew Gallup had a game-high twenty-three points and two other Rangers were in double digits as Lake Region moved to a perfect 9-0 with a 78-60 win over Enosburg (3-4) on Saturday.
Clint Provoncha had fourteen points, and Dennis Newland added ten in the win.
Next up for the boys is a trip to Franklin County to take on BFA Fairfax on Thursday. Tip-off is at 7:30.
Colchester 65, NCU 63
COLCHESTERâ€“North Country narrowly missed earning their second win of the season as Colchester overcame an eight-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Falcons 65-63 in boy's basketball play on Friday.
Matt Duncan came close to tying the game, but his late-game runner would not drop. He led the Falcons with 15 points.
Jason Hatin (12) and Tyler Paxman (11) were also in double digits for 1-8 North Country.
Ricky Giroux led all scorers with 30 points for 2-6 Colchester.
Next on the docket the team welcomes undefeated Rice to the NCUHS gym this Friday. Tip-off is at 6:30.
Spaulding 54, NCU 27
BARREâ€“North Country's girls basketball team suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday when they fell to Spaulding 54-27.
The loss moves their record to 4-2 while Spaulding improves to 5-3.
The girls are back on the road traveling to Burlington to face Rice this Friday. Tip-off is at 6:30.
STOWEâ€“The Nordic Falcons took to the trails in Stowe this past Friday in a Classic Technique race. The boys came home with a fifth place finish (87 points) while the girls did not qualify for a score.
Scoring for the boys, Brian DeLaBruere was tops with an eighth place finish, followed by Alex Cotnoir (20th), Sam Brunnette (27th) and Dan Decelles (32nd).
In the girls race, Haley Jo Tetreault crossed the line 15th overall and Adele Woodmansee was 21st.
It will be a long time before the team has another meet, as their next scheduled race is not until the 25th at MMU.
