Cornelius Bail Reduced In Abuse Prevention Order Case

The Newport man in the news for a homicide is in prison for allegedly violating an abuse prevention order. Christian Cornelius, 31, saw his bail reduced from $25,000 to $15,000 Tuesday in a hearing.

Solar Company Pitches Plans To Derby Board Of Selectmen

A Vermont solar power company wants to build a project in Derby. Henry Bell with Green Peak Solar out of Waitsfield attended the Derby selectmen’s meeting Monday evening to present his plans and find out if the town is interested.

Burst Pipe Cancels School In Coventry

COVENTRY – Coventry Village School students return to their classrooms Tuesday after an unexpected day off Monday. A burst pipe over the weekend prompted Principal Matthew Baughman to cancel classes for Monday.

Vermont Supreme Court: Water Dispute Decision Overturned

Rules Derby Center Within Rights To Charge Extra Fee

DERBY – The Vermont Supreme Court has overturned a lower court decision in a longstanding water dispute between the City of Newport and the Village of Derby Center, and remanded other issues back for further proceedings.
In its written decision issued Friday the Supreme Court stated that the Village of Derby Center did have the right to implement fees to the city on unused water, contrary to the lower trial court’s findings.

Brownington: Historic Grange Building Condemned

September 15, 2014

BROWNINGTON — The grange building here has been condemned by the insurance company CIS. The future of the building is in doubt.
Select board Chairman Dean Perry said the building could be restored through a historical society, but wants the town residents to decide how to proceed.
