ORLEANS–The Lake Region baseball Rangers played host to the Winooski Spartans on Tuesday, and what a day it turned out to be for Matt Messier, as the tall junior no-hit the Spartans, striking out 15 batters while walking just one as Lake Region won 10-0.
"I just went out and tried to throw strikes every inning, and my arm started to loosen up as the game went on. The last inning felt especially good," Messier said after the game.
Said LR coach Eric Degre, "Honestly that was about eighty percent of what he can do. If you noticed, in the seventh he was even stronger than he was in the first. He never gets a beautiful day to work, but he had good command of his fastball."
