BELLOWS FALLS– In the biggest surprise of the weekend, the seventh ranked North Country field hockey team knocked off number two Bellows Falls (11-2) 1-0.
"We called a time out with five minutes left and I told them that we didn't drive all of this way for nothing, that we were not leaving without a win, and we got it," said a joyous coach Chantelle Bouchard.
Brittany Fortier scored with 1:55 left to play in regulation to give her team the win.
The goal came after a dash-mark hit, which Brittany Verge put into the circle.
Adrianna Fournier found Fortier amidst the confusion, and Brittany banged it home for the lead.
It was the Falcons’ fourth shot of the game, and marked just the second opponent of the year to score on Bellows Falls.
Goaltender Danielle Gabucci had 20 saves in the shut-out victory.
The win earns the team a trip to UVM on Wednesday to take on MVU (11-3-1) at 3:30 in the semi-finals.
However, with the impending weather that is supposed to hit Vermont this week, that time is highly susceptible to change.
