NEWPORT–After going almost two long months since their last win, the North Country boys basketball team rallied from an eleven point first quarter deficit to defeat the Colchester Lakers 57-52 on Thursday evening.
"This feels great and it has been a long time coming," said NCU coach Brian Bonvechio. "We played these guys to a two point game at Colchester and we thought that we could play with them tonight and we did. We played tough defense and got some great performances out of these young men."
Three players were in double digits for the now 2-11 Falcons. Tyler Jenne led the team with 17 points while Kendrick Gray and Connor Hogan each had ten.
Colchester's Ricky Giroux led all scorers with twenty points.
In the JV game, Colin Myrick's bucket and one with 17.3 seconds left to play put NCU up to stay and Trent Bathalon added two from the stripe as insurance as the Falcons won 65-62.
With a renewed sense of vigor, the boys will travel to Jericho to take on MMU today. JV's go at 5:00, Varsity right after.
