NEWPORT–The North Country girl’s basketball team trailed by just two points at the half to the Essex Hornets, but the visitors were able to pull away in the third quarter to defeat the Falcons 53-34 on Tuesday evening.
"I think we want to leave remembering how we played in that first half," said NCU coach Christiane Brown. "We came out playing very strong, we were disciplined, but we still need to work on getting back defensively to limit those easy buckets."
Even with limited minutes in the second half, Desiree Coffin still led 4-8 North Country in scoring with 12 points.
Anna Bingham, who missed time after a mid-court collision, was also in double-digits with 11.
The loss is the eighth in a row for North Country, who will look to get out of this funk on Friday against Spaulding, a team coach Brown believes her girls match-up well with.
JV's get underway at 5:00, Varsity right after.
Speaking of the JV team, they were able to win the night's opening contest, besting the junior Hornets 51-27.
