COVENTRY – At least two residents are vying for the office of town clerk and treasurer. Deb Tanguay is facing off against incumbent Cynthia Diaz. Each title is considered a different position but the same person usually holds both offices.
Diaz first became clerk and treasurer in 2004.
"I'm running again because I really enjoy the people," said Diaz. "I really enjoy helping the residents of Coventry."
Diaz said she gained a lot of knowledge over the past nine years. The position, she said, is not just issuing dog licenses and dealing with taxes. She said duties include dealing with neighbor disputes and helping people get the information they need. (Continued in the Newport Daily Express.)
"I definitely do have support for this position," said Tanguay. "I do have support from the Coventry taxpayers who are looking for a change to be made in the office."
Taxpayers are looking for the fiduciary responsibility to return to the office and be in the forefront, Tanguay said. She said the changes taxpayers are looking for include implementing the policies and procedures that the office requires. They want change in how the tax collection and accounting processes are setup and processed, she said. Residents want it so the financial reports are more transparent.

See you at Town Meeting!
