DERBY – A state police scuba team recovered the body of 53-year-old Jacques LeBlanc from Lake Memphremagog late yesterday afternoon.
LeBlanc was using a tractor to move an ice shanty from the lake. It's unclear when LeBlanc went into the water, but family members last saw LeBlanc on the ice Saturday afternoon.
Police said rescue crews learned of the possible drowning from someone who saw the shanty sticking halfway out of a hole in the ice. They responded Saturday evening and started an intensive search with the scuba team Sunday. Lt. Kirk Cooper of the Vermont State Police said the team recovered LeBlanc from the ice around 3:15 p.m.
