DERBY – Jay is facing problems with people speeding through the town center. Vermont Route 242 West, towards Jay Peak Resort, has a posted speed limit of 35 mph into town. However, many drivers are not slowing down and are raising concerns of public safety.
The select board formed a committee tasked with dealing with the problem of speeders and added an appropriation for vote on Town Meeting day to contract with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department for more patrolling on Route 242. The residents said no by voice vote.
