BRANDON–Lake Region's baseball season came to a close last week, as the 7th seed lost to the number two seed Otter Valley Otters 6-0 in quarterfinal play.
Despite the second round loss, coach Eric Degre was pleased with his team's season, posting on the Rangers website, "It was a great baseball season for the Rangers! Well done men!"
Otter Valley got off to the fast start, touching Ranger starter Matt Messier for a pair of runs in the first.
The Otters would slowly add to their lead, scoring again in the second, once in the fourth, and twice in the fifth.
The score could have been higher, but Lake Region played solid defense behind Messier to keep the game close.
Offensively, the Rangers just could not get anything going.
Kolby George had the only hit on the day for Lake Region.
Messier went the distance, fanning four while allowing six hits and walking none.
Lake Region closes the season with a 12-6 record, a much better showing this year than in 2012.
Messier was the top batter for Lake Region in 2013, hitting .490 with a .585 OBP, an .804 SGP and an OPS of 1.389.
Dustin Bathalon had the Rangers best record as a pitcher, going 6-0 with 41 strikeouts, 13 walks and 24 hits allowed.
The Rangers graduated five seniors on Sunday; Billy Cashin, Isaac Miller, Isaac Sweeney, Alex Menard and Sam Barbeau.
