DERBY- The Drug Enforcement Agency endorses a drug take back program that is operated locally by the Orleans Country Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Kirk Martin said the biannual program is a national effort to get unused drugs out of people's homes. “We want to get narcotics out of the house,” said Martin. “There needs to be appropriate disposal of unused drugs to keep them from contaminating ground water. The high rate of misuse of narcotics, outdated drugs, and people who pass away are several reasons why we have this program.”
