They secured space at the Municipal Building, underwent 16 hours of training and started recruiting members. Nine years later, some of the faces have changed but many of the core group are still together and enjoying the lasting benefits of this program. The RSVP Bone Builders hour-long program is free of charge and relies upon low-impact weight training and exercise to combat osteoporosis by increasing muscular strength and bone density. Balance exercises aimed at preventing falls and other instructions are also key components. Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association show that people who participated in a weight training program twice weekly for a year gained an average of 1 percent additional bone density while a control group lost 2 percent to 2.5 percent density during that same period. Participants also reported increased strength, better balance, more energy and heightened feelings of well-being. “We’re all very anxious to start our fall session,” said Miriam Worth, “the Bone Builders program has a unique way of improving our physical abilities in a low-key and very social atmosphere.”The new session will be launched on October 6, at 9:00 a.m. at the Municipal Building in Island Pond, and thereafter on Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour duration. If interested, please call Trainers Charlene Maxwell (723.4781), Miriam Worth (723.6532) or Phyllis Clough (723.5014). This year, Assistant Trainers Pat Cooper and Debbie Hawkins have been added to the staff.Newport, VTNo author availableUpcoming EventsNewport Daily of Boat Season2015-10-01T20:25:36+00:002015-10-01T20:25:36+00:00Copyright 2011 Newport Daily ExpressNewport, VTNo author availableEnd of Boat SeasonNewport Daily Back Thursday2015-10-01T20:16:54+00:002015-10-01T20:16:54+00:00Copyright 2011 Newport Daily ExpressNewport, VTNo author availableThrow Back ThursdayNewport Daily of the Day2015-10-01T19:28:31+00:002015-10-01T19:28:31+00:00Copyright 2011 Newport Daily ExpressNewport, VTNo author availablePhoto of the DayNewport Daily Trump Visits New Hampshire 2015-10-01T17:15:30+00:002015-10-01T17:15:30+00:00Copyright 2011 Newport Daily ExpressNewport, VTNo author availableDonald Trump Visits New Hampshire Newport Daily Center for the Arts2015-09-30T16:14:19+00:002015-09-30T16:14:19+00:00Copyright 2011 Newport Daily ExpressNewport, VTNo author availableMAC Center for the ArtsNewport Daily to Curl for Free2015-09-30T16:06:43+00:002015-09-30T16:06:43+00:00Copyright 2011 Newport Daily ExpressClinics will be given at the Club on October 3, from noon- 3:00 p.m; October 7, 6:30-9:00 p.m; and October 10, 9:00 a.m. – noon. Come to one or all three.
