ORLEANS – The wrath of Hurricane Sandy hit home for QNEK's Lynn Leimer when the storm ravaged her beloved state of New Jersey. The storm wreaked havoc on many of Vermont’s neighboring states, devastating homes, leaving neighborhoods underwater, and knocking out power to millions, but the storm skirted Vermont and the state recovered quickly, leaving Vermonters in a position to provide help to others in need. A number of Vermonters, including state police, ambulance and utility workers, geared up and headed south to provide assistance. Vermonters are known as empathetic and giving, especially those of the Northeast Kingdom. The members of QNEK are no exception. The international resident theater company at the Haskell Opera House, known for bringing some of the best live entertainment to the NEK, is famous for its rendition of “Nunsense,” its signature show, and often does fundraising to help those in need. When Vermont was decimated by Tropical Storm Irene, QNEK did a show to help the recovery effort. Now it’s time again. The group will perform "Nunsense" at the Orleans Municipal Building Saturday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m., to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.Leimer, the CEO and artistic managing director of QNEK, said, “Every town I ever lived in or performed in is destroyed! It is more than heartbreaking. Friends just had the power turned back on today and the entire shore is overwhelmed due to this tragedy."Leimer contacted playwright, Dan Goggins and told him her idea. "He thinks it is terrific and has waived the royalty for the show," Leimer said. The Village of Orleans has also waived the rental fee for the municipal building and all the actors, musicians and technicians have waived their stipends. Community National Bank kicked in $1000, Passumpsic Bank $500, and Herons Path $500. All proceeds from the show will go the relief efforts. The show stars The Little Sisters of Hoboken: Susan-Lynn Johns as Sister Sandy, Ruth-Ann Fletcher as Sister Mary Leo,Sally Rivard as Sister Mary Amnesia, Anita Morin as Sister Robert Ann, Emily May as Sister Hubert, and Lynn Leimer as The Reverend Mother, Sister Mary Regina.
